How do I know if I am registered with Selective Service?

  • 5 points Great Question

I am currently filling out an application for a science research grant from the Department of Defence. In the online application, it asks me the post-obit question:

Are you registered with Selective Service?
- Yep
- No
- I am not required to register

Equally far every bit I know, any of the higher up could be the answer! I but have no idea, nor do I know how the average person would know this.

I am a 22-year-erstwhile female U.s. citizen who was born in the United States. I accept never had any sort of affiliation with the military machine.

Am I automatically registered, as a denizen?
Am I not registered, if I never did register?
Am I not required to register?

?????

Please assistance!

Simply men are required to register.

As for your Qs – No you aren't automatically registered as a denizen, and yep if y'all didn't register y'all aren't registered.

Soo…I remember given the information you provided, it's rubber to say that you aren't registered.

PnL'due south got it. As a lady, yous are not required to register for the draft which would totally never happen again because we remember how atrocious it was during 'nam. But, yous know, we take the Selective Service gear up to go. Just in case nosotros do need to draft. Which we would totally never do. But just in case.

Empresspixie is correct except it'southward true even if you are not a lady.

Cheers, guys!

So we can exist sure that I should check the box, "I am not required to register."

You know, they could have fabricated this easier by having the grade check that automatically when I clicked "female"...

Aye but some girls do sign up. They aren't required to, just they exercise it anyway. And if the person is registered, they need your Selective Service registration # irrespective of your sex.

yup only males at the age of 18 are required by law to register for SS

The draft could come back It was being debated final year and earlier this year as well

galileogirl is correct about EmpressPixie being correct about PnL beingness correct…

sorry, kinda an homage to Blazing Saddles, I guess

Equally I recall, if you are a male citizen of the US, when y'all are inside spitting distance of your 18th birthday, you are required by police force to go to the post office and sign your name to register for selective service. If you do it, you lot are registered for the draft if they ever bring it back. If you do not, they probably won't come to arrest y'all, but they will bar you from federal employment.

Every bit for the bringing back the draft, I doubt it will happen with something like Iraq, they tin can only use the back door draft (they phone call information technology a stop loss, but same difference).

But males 18 or older are required to register for selective service. Females are exempt from selective service.

By law, your not REQUIRED to sign upward for selective service, merely equally a male, if your not registered you can't accept advantage of regime benefits. Stuff, like loans, schoolhouse grants, and the likes are illegal for non-registered people. If your a male 18 and over and unregistered, if you don utilise for a grant or loan and get approved, then apply the money, your going to jail no ifs, ands, or buts!
